Bio of First Lady – Sharon D. Washington, B.S.N., RN:
Compassionate, loving and supportive are just a few words that describe the First Lady of New Grove Baptist Church. A native of Miami Florida, First Lady Washington is a graduate of Northwestern High School and Florida A & M University School of Nursing in Tallahassee, Florida. As a Registered Nurse (RN), First Lady Washington was licensed in the States of Florida, Kentucky and now in the State of Georgia. Mother of one son, three daughters and seven grandchildren, Lady Washington is affectionately involved in family lives at New Grove and throughout the Athens Area Community.
Ministry of Music
Our First Lady currently serves as a musician for regular worship services and pianist for the Gospel Choir. Noted for traditional Hymn and Gospel playing and singing, Lady Washington’s music gift allows her to play by written music or by ear.
Education & Outreach
First Lady Washington coordinates the new member’s orientation classes which are taught by Minister Rita Smith and continues to be the chief supporter to the pastor in education, music and new members outreach programs. Guided by a kind gentle spirit, First Lady Washington is an inspiration to many in the church family and community.
Health & Outreach
Compassionate about issues related to health, the First Lady of New Grove is active in designing and implementing programs that address health needs of the people. She implements wellness classes to address High Blood Pressure and Obesity issues as they relate to Stroke prevention. She works with the Nursing Ministry to administer Flu and Tetanus Immunizations. In the private sector, The First Lady works as a Public Health Nursing Supervisor for the Clarke County Health Department in Athens Georgia.
